"I truly believe that you must follow your dreams. Be true to
yourself and those you love. Know that obstacles exist only to make
you stronger and prepare you for what lies ahead. Remember... even
on your worst day, there is someone, somewhere in the world that thinks
the world of you and wishes you the best."
~Elaine
I would like to offer a bit of back round information in regard
to my competitions. Many people ask why I compete. There are many
reasons that come into play. Over all, I enjoy taking on the challenge
of continuous improvement. Regardless of the competition field, it
is really me against myself. The connection between the mind and
the body is amazing. Physical training is brutal, but mental training
takes it to a higher level. I've seen how my performance is directed
by my mental state. The phrase "your attitude determines your
altitude" is so true! My favorite quote is by Victor Frankl.
He states: "The last of the human freedoms is to be able to
choose ones attitude in any given set of circumstances." That
really sums it up! No matter where you are or what you are facing,
you have complete control of your attitude and how you act toward
the situation. Your attitude will either carry you over the obstacles
you are facing or leave you standing at the base looking up.
Competition has enhanced my life. The training has made me so much
stronger physically and mentally. Learning to "dial in" and
focus on the little steps along the way is more important than looking
at the big picture. There is alot to be said of persistence.
Competition has taught me many valuable lessons that I can directly
apply to my everyday life. These lessons keep me motivated as I strive
to be my personal best and by example lead others to do the same.
When I find tasks difficult to tackle, I know that it is not an indication
of my lack of ability, but rather a sign that it is time for me to
dig my heels in and exert more effort. Balance is of the essence.
Fitness competitions give me structure in regard to training, focus,
setting and achieving goals.
